Treat – Yo – Self! Oily Guide To Pampering

I would venture to say that the majority of us don’t take enough time to pamper ourselves. Maybe on special occasions, or as a gift from someone else but definitely not often enough. This post is here to change that! Read on to find out some easy DIY ways to pamper yourself using essential oils.

If you have read any of my posts, or follow my social media at all, you know that we love epsom salt essential oil baths around this house. It’s probably a little excessive, but I am not sorry. It makes us feel better! Just mix up to 15 drops of EO in with about a cup of epsom salts and dump it in the tub before you get in.

Had a bad day? Take a bath with Release, Joy, Lavender or a combination of all

Feeling sick? Take a bath with Thieves, Frankincense and Copaiba

Just back from the gym? Bathtime with Panaway, Copaiba and Peppermint for recovery of your sore muscles

But what other ways are there to pamper yourself using essential oils?

Face masks aren’t just for teenage sleepovers. They are rejuvenating and great for your skin. Take a look at two of my favorite recipes for DIY face masks.

Feeling a bit dry or have you been exposed to the elements and need a little TLC? Try out this recipe: 

◊ 1 tablespoon honey

◊ 1 tablespoon lemon juice

◊ 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg

◊ 1 tablespoon powdered cinnamon

◊ 2 drops Nutmeg essential oil

◊ 2 drops Cinnamon Bark essential oil

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a medium-sized bowl to form a thick paste. The paste should have a consistency that sticks to your skin. Add lemon juice or other ingredients as necessary to reach your desired thickness. Apply the paste to your entire face or to affected areas. After 20 minutes, rinse off the mask and pat dry.

A little too oily and need to dial back the shine? Try this one out: 

◊ 5 tablespoons organic aloe vera gel

◊ 20 drops Lavender essential oil

◊ 10 drops Tea Tree essential oil

◊ 1–2 drops Cinnamon Bark essential oil

Directions:

In a bowl, combine aloe vera with Lavender, Tea Tree, and Cinnamon Bark essential oils. Once the mixture is blended, apply it to your face. Apply moisturizer if desired. Store any leftovers in an airtight glass container for 15–20 days.

Sugar scrubs are great to smooth out rough dry skin. I love this for my winter dry hands and especially for my callused feet. Luckily it is super simple to make!

◊ ¼ cup + 2 TBS V-6 Vegetable Complex

◊ 5 drops Bergamot essential oil

◊ 3 drops Lavender essential oil

◊ 2 drops Sacred Sandalwood essential oil

◊ 2 drops Wintergreen essential oil

◊ ¾ cup raw sugar

Directions:

In a small bowl, mix V-6 oil with essential oils. Add mixture to raw sugar in a larger bowl and combine thoroughly. Store in an airtight jar.

Grab a partner and have a good ‘ol fashion two person massage “train” AKA take turns!

Relaxation Evening DIY Massage oil

◊ 10 drops Peace and Calming essential oil

◊10 drops Lavender essential oil

◊ 10 drops Cedarwood essential oil

◊ 4 oz fractionated coconut oil

Add essential oils to a 4oz pump or squeeze bottle and fill the remainder with the fractionated coconut oil. Use as much as desired. This combo will really help set the mood for a good nights rest.

Sexy Time Massage Oil (I mean… I HAD to)

◊ 10 drops Sensation essential oil

◊ 10 drops Orange essential oil

◊ 10 drops Cypress essential oil

◊ 4 oz fractionated coconut oil

Add essential oils to a 4oz pump or squeeze bottle and fill the remainder with the fractionated coconut oil. Use as much as desired. This massage blend is all about getting that libido going, enjoy!

CBD For Your Pets

I know from personal experience that our furry friends can feel much less like pets and more like children. They are a part of our family. So when we see them going through anxiety, for any reason, it breaks our heart and we want to do everything we can to help.

Our Corgi, Zoey, went through a really hard separation anxiety period when her best bud, and our first dog Curby passed away. She took Curby being gone reallllly hard and could not stand to be alone when we had to leave for work. She would destroy anything in her path to find someone to be with. On TWO different occasions she ripped through metal chicken wire that I had put over the gate of our back yard, reinforced with zip ties. She shredded right through it in an anxiety filled fit and ran off down the street. We tried a few different methods of calming her, including the anxiety collars you see in the stores and nothing seemed to work. In fact, she ate the collar! Finally we ended up caving and got her another dog pal to keep her company. Enter Stewie into our lives. A couple years later I came across a few different studies about the benefits that people enjoy from CBD and how they could also help animals. It was such a relief to find a natural method to help Zoey with her anxiety, and from our experience, it really works!

Dosing can be tricky, but method is not. Start by adding just a few drops of Hemp Extract Oil on a treat, let it soak in, then give it to your pet. No Problem! Serving size is what can be tricky, because even humans will react differently to different doses of CBD. Start by giving 3-5 drops on a daily basis, going up to 10 drops for large doses needed before traveling, fireworks, being home alone, or any other anxiety triggering time. (Use discretion based on the size of your pet.) Elevate Your Frequency

When you hear “the power of positive thinking” what do you think about? Some people are very invested in this philosophy and live by it, more power to you! Others are hesitant to play too much into it, I hear you too! Let me break it down into something simple everyone can get behind.

Everything is made of energy, we are no different.  That energy can be physically measured in MegaHertz (MHz) and is basically a measurement of how quickly our cells can regenerate in our bodies. Scientific studies have shown that in order for our bodies to stay healthy we need to stay above 58MHz. Disease begins when a body is at 58MHz, cancer happens at 42MHz and death begins at 25MHz. A typical healthy body will have a frequency range of about 67MHz to 78MHz.

There are so many things throughout the day that will effect your frequency levels, What you eat, what you think, what you touch etc. For example, negative thoughts have been found to decrease the energy frequencies in your body while saying a prayer can increase them. They have even gotten pretty specific with it, saying that a negative thought decreases your frequencies by as much as  -12MHz while a prayer can increase it by +15MHz. Just touching a cigarette was shown to decrease by -17MHz and smoking one was a whopping -23MHz. All the more reason to put those down Ya’ll!

So it would benefit us all to increase those frequencies right?! I talk a lot about “Staying above the wellness line.” How do we do that?

To combat the inevitable negatives you will come into contact with during the day you need to be conscience of the positives you can accumulate along the way. Eating healthy foods (up to +27), surrounding yourself with positive people and using essential oils as a few examples.

Essential oils have the highest frequencies of any natural substance studied, with ranges from 46MHz all the way to 580MHz! You can use essential oils topically, aromatically, or internally to help support your body’s frequency.

Headache Level 10000000

As a mom of 2, with the little one only 9 months old, I experience my fair share of headaches. I saw this the other day and thought “yup thats where I’m at right now!” Screen Shot 2018-11-07 at 7.33.59 PM

Whatever the cause, I am sure most of you struggle with a headache every once in a while or possibly daily. Instead of reaching for the pill bottle to dull that ache, grab an oil roller, sniff a bottle, or jump in a steamy shower with a few drops of oil.

 

Here are some of my favorite ways to tame the beast:

Peppermint, Panaway & Lavender Roller (All in the Starter Kit)

Start at one temple and roll across the top of your forehead to the other temple. You can also roll on the back of your neck and your big toes. Throw that sucker in your purse/pocket and take it with you to re-apply. You can roll it on every 30 minutes if needed.

M-Grain Oil Blend (Basil, Marjoram, Lavender, Peppermint, Roman Chamomile, Helichrysum)

Sniff it straight from the bottle or put one drop in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, and then cup them over your mouth. Breathe in deep. Pop a roller top directly on it and roll across your forehead and temples. This is one of my favorites to put in a diffuser necklace when life must go on and you are on the run.

 

 

Oils in the hot steamy shower

If you have the time/ability to jump in a hot steamy shower, do so! Take an oil or two with you and drop 3-4 drops on the shower wall or floor where the water is not directly hitting it. Let the shower steam up with the oil and breathe deeply. My favorite oils to do this with are Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Lavender and Frankincense. Pick one or mix a couple together. Choose an oil and massage it into your temples and back of neck while you are in there as well. Just make sure it doesn’t get into your eyes.

 

Straight gangsta with a thumb to the roof of your mouth

This is when ain’t nobody got time for a shower and you need a clear mind now. Try putting 1 drop of Thieves or peppermint on the tip of your thumb and pressing it to the roof of your mouth. You can also do this with your tongue but that might taste pretty strong! Sniff that bottle of peppermint before putting the cap back on just for good measure 😉

 

Oils were definitely what got me through my pregnancy headaches since taking pills wasn’t an option. Your liver will thank you for backing off the pharmaceuticals and taking a chance on a natural way to relax your headache. If one of these oils/tricks doesn’t work for you,  try another suggestion and really experiment with it. Everybody’s body is different and you will find what works for you!

 

The ABC’s of CBD

I will be talking at great length as we go along about Botana CBD products. But I realized after my first post about CBD, that maybe I need to take a step back and explain this medicinal compound a little more.

Most of the major discoveries involving cannabis have come to light over the last 30 years or so. While studying the effects of THC and CBD, researchers uncovered the receptors in our body that bond to these cannabinoids, and labeled them CB1 and CB2. The interaction between the cannabinoids in cannabis and these receptors led to the much larger discovery of the endocannabinoid system. Long story short, this is the most under appreciated system in the human body. Other than insects, every living plant or animal has an endocannabinoid system made for processing these compounds, both from outside plants and naturally within our bodies.

The endocannabinoid system is responsible for maintaining homeostasis within the human body. This system is responsible for mental and physiological processes including memory, higher cognition, motor coordination, appetite control, emotional support, maintaining healthy bone density, and naturally preventing diabetes. There is still a tremendous amount of research that needs to be done on this system, as well as the compounds that interact with it.

One thing we do  know right now is that there are higher amounts of CB1 receptors in the brain, which typically bind to THC more easily. This is the compound that gives people the euphoric “high”. CB2 receptors are found more generally throughout the body, specifically the immune and gastrointestinal system. CB2 receptors also tend to bond easily with CBD. This could be the reason CBD has such a wide spectrum of medicinal uses within our bodies. New research indicates there might also be a CB3 receptor! As industry regulation eases, we will be able to research this system within our bodies more and more, as well as understand how they interact with different compounds.  Imagine what could it mean to the future understanding of the health of our bodies!

While we will probably discover more of these natural cannabinoids the more we research, for now the most plentiful source of cannabinoids is found within the cannabis plant.

CBD Farm

There are 113 Cannabinoids in cannabis. Many are in very small trace amounts, and most have not had the funding (or Government clearance) to be studied for their full medical benefit. Some of the most notable would be of course THC and CBD. But CBN is being identified as the cannabinoid responsible for the sleepy sensation, or CBG as the potential cannabinoid for treatment of gastrointestinal issues. Being able to isolate and studies these compounds could lead to a number of new treatments.

Without a doubt, the most medicinal compound that we know of at this time is CBD. It has virtually no side effects (might make you tired) and has a super long list of benefits including,  but not limited to:

An Apple A Day…

The season has begun where the sniffles, coughing and the dreaded flu creep into your home. If you are like us and have little ones then you are on extra high alert from the germs they bring home with them from school. How do we guard against the winter woes and make sure we make it to Christmas without a sick day?

In our house we thrive on all things Thieves, ingest cold fighting oils and Ningxia Red antioxidant drink as well as use our Immunity Roller daily.

At the first sign of sniffles I start up the diffuser in our main common area of the house and I keep that sucker puffing away all day. I pair Thieves oil with a few other immune boosting oils such as Frankincense, Tee Tree and Lemon. You can also use Purification and Citrus Fresh to cleanse the air and help the unwanted germs from spreading.

The next step in our regimen is ingesting cold fighting Vitality Line oils like Thieves, Oregano & Frankincense. I keep empty veggie capsules on hand always and fill one capsule with 2-3 drops essential oil and a dab of carrier oil before swallowing. *I do not recommend that kids ingest oils in this manner.  Tip: If you pre-make your capsules, throw them in the freezer to keep them from leaking. Another way I ingest oils is by putting Thieves, Lemon and Frankincense in my hot tea or coffee grounds. 1 drop of each in a hot steamy cup is my go-to when I feel that scratch at the back of my throat.

Ningxia Red is an antioxidant powerhouse of a drink from Young Living. Talk about giving your immune system a leg up! It is made from nutrient-rich wolfberry puree, superfruit juices, and pure essential oils like Tangerine, Lemon and Orange. You only need a small shot of Ningxia each morning for it to do it’s job. Tip: put it in the fridge to make it even tastier. If you have the single packets, throw a straw in the top and your kids will have a new favorite healthy treat.

I love my oil rollers, for everything, but the one I make sure that I ALWAYS have on hand is my immunity roller. We use this roller daily, not only during times of sickness but also during times of health, to continue supporting our bodies. We apply the roller to the back of our necks, down along our spines, and on the bottom of our feet morning and night. If our son will be around other kids at the playground or going to a party we will apply right before as well.

Here are a couple roller recipes that we use to keep healthy or get over the bug quick:

Adult Immunity Roller (Starter Kit Oils):

10 Drops Thieves

10 Drops Frankincense

5 Drops Lemon

5 Drops Lavender

Kids Immunity Roller: 

5 Drops Tee Tree – Outside the Starter Kit

4 Drops Frankincense

3 Drops Lemon

3 Drops Lavender

*When your roller has Lemon in it make sure that if you plan on going outside, you only apply on covered areas of skin. Lemon oil is photosensitive and can irritate your skin when exposed to sunlight.

Last but not least, make sure you are wiping down anything and everything with Thieves Household Cleaner to stop that sickness in it’s tracks and keep it away from your family this season.

Ain’t nobody got time for that!
