Plants Heal

One of my biggest “Eureka” moments with oils was right after having my second child. My birth story with my 1st was not the beautiful experience that a 1st time mom hopes for. We ended up in an emergency cesarean after 24 hours of labor and my Dr. delivered a 10.3 lb angel of a baby boy. Thank the Lord that everyone was healthy and happy but it also left me with a hard recovery and a big scar.

When we found out I was pregnant with our 2nd child, we already knew that it would be a repeat c-section. By this time I had introduced oils into our home and I was bound to have a different experience with my surgery recovery. I searched the knowledge of fellow oilers and I was gifted with this amazing roller recipe:

10ml Glass Roller Bottle

30 Drops Helichrysum  – Key Ingredient For Healing & Circulation

30 Drops Frankincense – Great for Skin in Many Ways & Anti-Infectious

30 Drops Juniper – Nerve Support, Cleanser & Diuretic

30 Drops Lavender – Anti-Inflammatory &  Skin Cell Renewal + 10000 more reasons

Top it off with a Carrier Oil

This is a very strong recipe. I would normally only have 30 drops in a 10ml roller for an adult’s every day use. I knew I would need a super roller so I ordered all of these oils and had it ready before our scheduled delivery.

I was in the hospital for 4 days postpartum and I did not use the roller during this time. I wanted to give my incision a little time to close up before introducing the oils. *Just as a disclaimer, the doctors and nurses did tell me not to put anything on the incision and you will probably get this same advice. I am not a doctor so please come to your own decision.*

Around day 5, once we were home, my husband helped me apply the roller AROUND the incision but not ON it. We did that at least twice a day for about a week. Once I saw a noticeable improvement, I started to apply the roller AROUND and ON the incision and continued applying at least twice a day. Preston and I definitely knew this was a world of difference in healing from my first experience but the validation came on day 14 when I went in for my 1st post operation check up at my Dr.’s office.

The nurse practitioner (who I hadn’t seen before at the practice) examined me and then checked her chart. She had a confused look on her face so I asked what was going on. She asked me “How long ago did you have your baby?” I told her “2 weeks.” She then said “There is no way. Your incision healing looks like it is at least 6-8 weeks post surgery.”

WOW guys! I literally giggled on the exam table and was so excited to tell her about the oils I have been using to help with the healing. She eagerly listened and said that she would have to share that with her other patients. I found out later that all of the nurses in the practice found out about my super healing incision from her.

This recipe can be used for all kinds of wound healing and scar appearance reduction. I have passed along this gold to others who have also used it with success (read Petey’s post about his dad HERE)

I hope that you can find as much happiness and gratification with this recipe as we have. Enough to giggle 🙂

Selling Your Home The Oily Way

Preston and I are a Real Estate duo in Arizona. Somehow we haven’t gotten sick of each other yet! It’s so fun for us to share our passion for what we do, whether it be in Real Estate or oils. So whenever those worlds cross over, it’s extra exciting for us nerds. This crossover post is all about selling your home and how a simple smell in the diffuser may increase your chances of catching that buyer.

rose flower

Smells can influence action in a person. You smell the floral scents in the grocery store and may just run over and pick up a dozen roses for your kitchen. Or a whiff of something from the bakery will have fresh rolls in your basket in no time. Smells from your past can also immediately drift you into a nostalgic haze. What people think of first when planning an Open House is baking fresh chocolate chip cookies in the oven so the house feels like home when buyers walk in.

Contrary to that popular belief, cookies are not the best way to woo via the nose.  A study by Spangenberg, Sprott and Zidansek (2012) found that in fact, simple scents are the most effective way to get people to open their wallets and spend $$$$. The smell of cookies can be complicated to your olfactory senses by including many different scents all at once such as chocolate, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon etc. This study shows that just by infusing a retail store with the simple scent of Orange, sales increased by 20%!orangeArmed with that knowledge, Preston and I always bring our diffuser with us to every Open House. We diffuse Orange Essential Oil the most but we also like to try other citrus scents like Lemon (with 1 drop peppermint to make it smell like a spa). This does more than just help with the atmosphere. It can also eliminate other smells in the house that may not be too pleasant to incoming buyers ex) pets or the stale smell of a vacant home. If you are living in your home while trying to sell it, we definitely recommend investing in a diffuser and turning it on right before you know there will be a showing. We lend out diffusers to our clients for this use all the time. DSC_1830Ok so Orange Oil is no replacement for an actual Realtor doing a great job {give us a call 😉 }  but it can definitely give you a helpful little edge over the other houses for sale on the block.

Happy selling ya’ll!

You Down with CBD? Ya, You Know Me!

There are so many misconceptions about CBD oil out there right now. Heck, it isn’t even legal to grow medicinal CBD plants in all 50 states just yet. Thankfully however, It is legal to consume CBD products nationwide.

CBD is the medicinal cannabinoid of the cannabis sativa plant. More commonly known as Hemp. CBD is also found in recreational cannabis but in generally much smaller amounts. Nearly all cannabinoids have been found to have healing properties, however CBD has the widest range of medicinal uses. CBD products are legally mandated to have less than .3% of THC (the psychoactive cannabinoid) and therefore they will not give you the “high” that recreational cannabis does. It also will not show up on a drug test.

Because of the lack of overall consumer knowledge on the subject of CBD, this industry has been hard to regulate for quality as well as price. A lot of times you need to try out different companies, and research their growing methods, before you land on one you like and works for you. For us, Botana is the brand. They follow the same strict standards that Young Living does by growing organically and bringing only the purest product to their consumers.

Here is where I am going to get sciencey with you, but stick with me! I promise it will be worth it…

A lot of times people look for a product with a high number of CBD milligrams. They think, the higher the mg content, the more potent. In fact, many products that have high CBD levels are extracts that lack any of the other beneficial cannabinoids present in the plant (CBN,CBG, Terpenes, etc.) Botana is one of only a hand full of companies using an advanced alchemical process, spagyric extraction, which helps capture all the other beneficial minerals in the plant. When all of these minerals are present and combined together their potency multiples from the “entourage effect.” In the end, Botana products are 6-10 times more effective then similar products, with tinctures being 95% bioavailable when taken sublingually. It’s also worth noting, before selling their own products, Botana was (and still is) a top organic hemp producer for a number of different companies. Pure hemp + Pure extraction = Potent results! So in fact, MG is important, but not the only factor worth considering when choosing which product will bring the best results.

There are many different ways to use CBD products; tinctures you take orally when needed, capsules to take daily, massage oils, baked into food/confections, salves to rub into sore muscles etc. The why you need it should determine the how you take it.

Personally we love:

CBD Hemp Oil Capsules taken nightly to help with overall body inflammation as well as getting a great nights rest. You will see the effect after a few consistent days of taking the capsules since the cannabinoids need to build up in your system for the full benefit.

CBD Capsules

Stress Response Tincture taken sublingually when needed. You know those days/times! It tastes like a plant, but shouldn’t it? That’s how you know you are getting the pure goodness.Stress Response CBD

CBD Hemp Salve rubbed into our sore joints and muscles for an instant relief. This stuff is WOW guys. Just make sure you spend about 2 minutes rubbing it into the area needed so you know it has the best absorption rate.

DIY Fall Decor & Spray

I love allll the Fall things. I am what many people call “Basic” when it comes to this season and I am proud of it! A couple things I am NOT about though is paying $50+ for a fall wreath or inhaling all those “fragrance” chemicals from store bought packaged potpourri. Solution? DIY!

First, make yourself the yummiest fall spray using an essential oil blend. For me this includes the following recipe:

Cinnamon Bark – 10 drops

Clove – 10 drops

Nutmeg – 8 drops

Orange – 8 drops

*Some people like to add Ginger to this mix but I am not a fan so I will leave it out of my spray. If you like Ginger, then go for it and add 5 drops or so (to preference).

Fill a 2 oz glass spray bottle with the oils first and then top it off with distilled water. You can use Witch Hazel or Vodka instead of water if you are feeling sassy. Shake before spraying.

I made the recipe a little stronger than most because I want the smell to linger and I will not only be using it for room spray but also as a potpourri spray on the following DIY projects …

You guys…. I spent $15.95 on all of this at Hobby Lobby. That is a far cry from the gouging I saw on the wreath aisle. Ouch! Do yourself a favor and walk on over to the floral section where the $4.99 (+40% off) bare stick wreaths are. Then load up your basket with the (40% off) individual decorations. Do a little DIY magic and vwuala!

Flower Power!

After you arrange and re-arrange your wreath the way you want it. Use the always handy hot glue gun to make sure everything stays right where you put it.Flower Power! (2)Now that you have your masterpiece together. Hang that bad boy on your wall or, in my case, front door and spray it with your already created Fall Essential Oil Spray. Now whenever you have guests over, they will be greeted with the essence of Fall…. Mmmmmmmm!

I have been wanting a cornucopia since I learned about them in grade school. My Fall dreams have come true with this 40% off gem from Hobby Lobby and I am about to fill it up with some DIY Fall Potpourri Ya’ll!

Choose the look of your potpourri first. I went with a mix of pinecones and acorns (purchased this way). I then added a little pumpkin and corn flare on my own. I know, skills right? You can add cranberries or dried orange peel or cinnamon sticks. Whatever is your jam, you do you!.

Super simple, you already have half of if done by making the Spray earlier. Put the potpourri mix in your favorite bowl, or cornucopia, and then spray the heck out of it. Make sure it soaks up all the goodness. Choosing wood items in your mix will help with this absorption. Shake your spray and repeat when needed.

Feel like Martha Stewart yet? Well you should because you just killed the Fall DIY game. Give yourself a pat on your back and go snuggle up with a Pumpkin Spice Latte. You deserve it for not only being thrifty but also looking out for your health by ditching and switching those toxic fragrances for the goodness of EOs. Cheers!

Carrier Oils & Dilution

What takes 22 seconds to reach your brain, 2 minutes to be found in your bloodstream, and less than 20 minutes to reach every cell in your body? That’s right, essential oils!  They are amazing compounds that can be utilized in many different ways for your overall health. The most common way people use essential oils is topically (applying to one’s skin).

Because essential oils are so very concentrated, carrier oils are used to help slow down the absorption into the skin (to reduce irritation) as well as help extend the essential oil over a large surface area.

Carrier oils are oils made mainly from fruits or vegetables and derived from the fatty portion of the plant, typically from the seeds or the nuts. They are high in essential fatty acids and can be used in many different capacities such as cooking, cleaning, beauty regimens and medicinal products to name a few.

When it comes to your choice of carrier oil, a lot of it is personal preference. Everybody’s body is different and you need to find what works best for you and your skin type.

Here is a breakdown of some of the most popular carrier oil choices that I have come across and what they are good for.

Coconut Oil / Fractionated Coconut Oil: Fractionated Coconut Oil stays in liquid form, while the extra virgin Coconut Oil hardens when it cools. It can be used for anything and everything but is especially good for dry skin. It is great at removing makeup but some people find that they break out if they use Coconut Oil because the molecules are large and sit on the surface of your skin longer. Use Fractionated Coconut for your rollers and on the spot diluting and use Extra Virgin Coconut Oil in moisturizer and cream recipes. Whip up a body butter!

Grapeseed Oil Great for an everyday use for rollerballs and also a good choice for face serums. Great for balancing, toning, and smoothing the skin while being kind to skin that may break out easily.

Jojoba Oil: Since it is technically a wax, this oil has a longer shelf life than most carrier oils and is very resistant to higher temperatures. Jojoba Oil is colorless and odorless and is found in many cosmetic products as a replacement for Whale Oil. It is great for skin, hair and cuticles. I would recommend this oil for any beauty recipes, especially those for your face.

Rosehip Seed Oil: Extracted from the seeds of a wild rose bush, this oil is high in essential fatty acids such as omega-6 and omega-3. Commonly used for face serums Rosehip Seed Oil is great for nourishing and toning your skin.

Vitamin E Oil: Vitamin E oil is rich in antioxidants and used in a lot of skincare products, especially those that claim anti-aging benefits. It is used in wound care, reducing appearance of scars, sunburn care, and treating Psoriasis symptoms.

Young Living’s V-6 Oil: A mixture of 7 different oils (Fractionated Coconut Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, and Olive Fruit Oil) This carrier oil can be used for anything and is odorless and colorless. It is safe to use on everyone in your family, including your pets.

Mix it up and try different things to find your favorite. I pretty much exclusively use fractionated coconut oil for everything I make. However, when making beauty products for my face I lean towards Rosehip seed oil or Jojoba Oil. My next venture is to try Vitamin E oil for all my rollers because, why not?!

With all that said, I still do use some essential oils “neat” or straight out of the bottle  from time to time. This is a level of comfort that you will have to find for yourself and is totally a personal preference. Your Starter Kit makes it easy by providing you a roller top you can pop directly on a EO bottle. My favorite to do this with is Stress Away and wear it as a perfume.

Times I suggest to always use a carrier oil are when you are using an oil for the first time (to make sure that you don’t have a negative reaction to the oil) or when you are using a “hot oil” (see image below).

Hot oils can cause a warming sensation, and possible irritation if not used with a carrier. If you keep good food in your fridge, you'll eat good food.

**When you are using oils on children, ALWAYS DILUTE with a carrier. Dilution ratio chart below for reference:

Mom-Brain-Fog…Mom-Brain, wait did I already say that?

Can you still call it Stockholm Syndrome when you are talking about your own baby and toddler as your captors?

As a work from home mom, I can sometimes go days without speaking face-to-face with another adult other than my husband. A lot of times during those days, we hardly leave the house. Just quick trips to and from school, errands or a walk to the park.

As a Realtor, there is no such thing as a typical “weekend” and so on top of the home isolation, the days start to blend together.

First of all let me start off by saying…I love working from home and I am blessed that I get to spend as much time with my kids as I do… but it can also really create a sense of isolation and roll in the brain fog big time.

I have been searching for ways to combat this brain fog and aside from working out, making additional intentional time for myself during the week, and creating a sense of community outside of my home, I have added a couple oils to my arsenal!

When I am sitting on the couch trying to break through the fog and get motivated for the day or if I am staring at my computer screen with a big ‘ol blank for too long, I now break out my new favorite oil, Clarity.

Clarity is a blend of Basil, Cardamom, Rosemary, Peppermint, Coriander, Geranium, Bergamot, Lemon, Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, Roman Chamomile, and Palmarosa. Clarity.jpg

This oil will wake you up and part the clouds that have been forming in your head almost instantly. It also may help you with memory retention, so bonus! In fact, one study out of the University of Cincinnati found that inhaling Peppermint oil alone increased the mental accuracy of students tested by 28%! All us moms out there know exactly what “Mom-brain” is like. Where are my keys again? Whether you sniff it directly from the bottle (my go to in “emergencies”) or you diffuse it in your workspace, Clarity will definitely live up to it’s namesake.

The next one in my Essential Rewards shopping cart is called Brain Power. I haven’t tried this blend yet but I am excited to after seeing my results with Clarity. Brain Power.jpg

Brain Power is a blend of Sacred Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Frankincense, Blue Cypress, Lavender and Helichrysum.

Talk about a powerhouse of an oil! This blend is high in sesquiterpenes which are terpenes that help carry oxygen molecules to your cells, including your brain! Research also shows that sesquiterpenes can help dissolve petrochemicals along the receptor sites near the pituitary, pineal, and hypothalamus, which leads to an increase in normal receptivity along those sites. An increase in oxygen + an increase in normal receptivity in your brain = no more brain fog! Yes please!

These two blends are specially formulated to pull you out of your funk and make you a much more productive human. I know that’s something I need from time to time so I plan on having them on hand. If you are interested in learning more or want your very own power boost in your pocket, reach out to us to order or get started with a Wholesale Account. As always, the best way to get started, is through one of our Premium Starter Kits.

Relax, Unwind & Soothe

Who doesn’t enjoy a nice warm bath? I bet everyone would agree it’s one of the most relaxing things you can do. But most of you probably haven’t taken a bath in months, if not years. I suggest you change that and here is a great excuse to do so. The therapeutic bath. Whatever ails you, whether physical or mental, you can support your body through epsom salts and oils.

Epsom salts can be found in your local drugstore and only cost a few bucks. When it is dissolved into water it breaks down into magnesium sulfate easily absorbed through your skin. The most common reason people use epsom salts are to relieve soreness of muscles and stiff joints but there are so many benefits of magnesium for your body. Some benefits include bone health, heart health, easing PMS symptoms and migraine head aches, along with reducing anxiety.

Couple these salts with essential oils and you have yourself a powerful bath bomb.

In order for oils to dissolve into the water, you must first mix them with the epsom salts. Otherwise the oils will just float at the top of the water and you won’t receive the maximum benefits.

First fill a measuring cup with 1 cup of epsom salts. then drop 15 drops of your oil(s) of choice into the salts. Mix up and let it absorb. Sprinkle into your warm bath and enjoy.

*I only put about 6-8 drops of oil in the salts for kids
